Cloudlake Mountain Retreat, a 65 acre Land for Wildlife property, lies in a secret, sheltered rainforested valley, 2100feet above sea level, 1.5 hours from Brisbane and 1/2 hour from Toowoomba and is located within walking distance of Ravensbourne National Park. Magnificent, ancient trees (two of which are on the National Register of Big Trees are are approximately 500 years old) surround the property, one third of which is endangered rainforest along the creek at the bottom of the valley.
Two fully self contained guest cottages, The Boathouse and Mother of Ducks, located right on the lake, were designed and constructed to provide the most comfortable living environments using eco-design in relation to orientation, solar use, sustainable, low toxic materials and finishes.
The Boathouse is contemporary - an open-plan pole building with cantilevering decks overhanging the lake and a full bifold wall opening onto the top deck. Full kitchen facilities as well as a Weber Q bbq on the deck and a campfire by the lake enable every cooking opportunity. A wood fire and comfortable lounges to curl up on and read and a lovely deep bath for two with views into the bushland ensure a relaxing and romantic experience. With a queen bed downstairs, a double futon in the Sleeping Loft and a double sofa bed, the Boathouse can sleep one or two couples.
Mother of Ducks, perched above the lake, with wrap around verandahs and french doors opening from the Living Room and Bedroom is a delightful 110 classic Queenslander. Again a full kitchen as well as a large bbq on the verandah and a campfire by the lake perfect for roasting marshmallows, enables families and larger groups to have a fun and relaxing getaway.
Extensive walking trails through the gardens, orchards, rainforest, vineyard and olive grove and visits to the hens, ducks, guinea fowl and sheep as well as swimming and canoeing in the lake, provide relaxing and enjoyable entertainment.
Nearby Toowoomba, just 30 or so minutes drive, with its wonderful new Grand Central shopping centre, full of the most beautiful and sought after boutiques, offers fantastic retail therapy with lots of delicious lunch venues close by. Therefore, you can spend an exciting time shopping and dining in this High Country City with a peaceful and secluded retreat at Cloudlake to recharge in.
