Kurrimine Beach is an unspoilt tropical fishing village. It sustains the old-world charm of the tropical north with larrikins and personalities aplenty. It is a very laid back place and is good if you want to get away from the hype of the city. We are located 90 mins south of Cairns and approximately 2.5 hours north of Townsville.
Fishing rules in Kurrimine Beach so if you like wetting a line then this is the place for you. The standard greeting around the village is not g'day but rather "what'd you catch?" We have creek, estuary, beach and reef fishing all within 5 minutes of each other. The hardest decision you'll have to make is whether to have mud crab, coral trout, barramundi or crayfish for dinner!
In addition to this the reef is so close to the beach that we can even walk out there on low tides. Kurrimine Beach is the only beach on mainland Australia where this is possible. We walk our guests out to the reef on certain tides each month between May and September each year. This month we walked out with twenty of our guests and we had a good hour exploring the exposed reef. We saw giant horned starfish, clams, corals, fish, turtles, a sea snake and collected lots of fantastic sea shells. For the very observant there is also the possibility of picking up one of the famous King Reef Painted Crayfish for dinner. Park rules, however, dictate that any crayfish found on the reef must be shared at happy hour!
At Kurrimine Beach Holiday Park we have the kids well taken care of, in fact, we often joke there is so much for them to do here that we guarantee to have them in bed by 7.30pm so that you can enjoy a peaceful evening! Our formula is simple – we have a huge swimming pool with lots of giant inflatable toys, an inflatable obstacle course, flying fox and playroom. If that is not enough to wear your kids out we recommend that you end the day with a nice long stroll along the beach!
