Cygnet is in the heart of the Huon Valley, an apple, cherry and berry growing district. Over the past thirty years it has successfully mixed alternative lifestyle and visitors activities such as woodturning, shops with interesting local crafts, lovely cafes and diners and holiday cottage accommodation with more traditional dairy cattle, orchards, mixed farming and sawmilling. It is an area of such richness that the recent SBS cooking/lifestyle series Gourmet Farmer showcased both the area and its presenter, Matthew Evans's, love of local fresh produce and cuisine designed to make enthusiastic foodies go weak with delight. Matthew Evans set up his Fat Pig Farm just on the out skirts of Cygnet and his lunches and cooking classes are real popular.
Every second weekend of January Cygnet hosts the famous Cygnet Folk Festival a real drawcard for any music lover, we host visitors from all over that attend this festival yearly.
Cygnet also started a French Inspired weekend once a year, due to the French connections with admiral Bruni D'Entrecasteaux naming the bay that runs up to Cygnet Port des Cygnets noir due to the high amount of black swans that reside in this area.
