Leave the city behind and join Habitat Tours for the ultimate nature experience on one of our Auckland Day tours to the Waitakere Ranges or Tawharanui. The magical places we visit will have you never wanting to leave as you discover New Zealand wildlife, rain forests and bush, breathtaking landscapes, stunning coastlines and beaches - all so close to Auckland.
We have four tours for you to choose from:

Tawharanui - Full Day tour - Just over 1 hour from Auckland City you will discover New Zealand's bush and native trees (including 800 year old kauri trees) your guide will introduce you to the natural history with a stop at Parry Kauri Park, a short stop at Matakana Village before driving to Tawharanui Regional Park, a mainland sanctuary and farm. Tawharanui is home to many of New Zealand's native and endemic birds, many endangered. The stunning white sandy beaches and marine reserve to stroll along, explore or take a swim. A guided walk will introduce you to this nature wonderland. Tour includes a delicious picnic lunch.

Tawharanui - Day/Night Tour - Departure 2.00pm and returning to Auckland city at 11pm (times vary with season)
This tour offers all that the day tour offers plus a guided night walk to discover New Zealand's nocturnal wildlife including the kiwi (note we see kiwi around 70% of the time), the morepork (NZ owl) and weta.
A delicious picnic dinner is provided to enjoy while overlooking the ocean and outlying Little Barrier Island with the sunset as a backdrop.

Waitakere Ranges - Full Day Tour - discover the wild west coast of Auckland, we visit a rainforest with a huge variety of New Zealand's flora - native trees (1000 year old kauri trees), tree ferns, palm trees, mosses. A short drive to Bethells Beach where we walk giant sand-dunes, visit a lake and stunning coastline with time to stroll the beach and enjoy the landscape. The final stop is Muriwai beach with sensational views and home to a gannet colony where between August and April the gannets reside to breed before heading back to Australia.
A delicious picnic lunch is provided.

Waitakere Ranges - Half Day Tour - If time is short then a 5 hour tour will give the visitor an introduction to what the wild west coast offers - rainforest, lake, sand-dunes and beach.
Included is morning tea - homemade cookies, fresh fruit and a selection of teas and coffee.

To give the best experience we take a minimum of 7 guests and spend more time exploring and less time driving.
