Less than 90 minutes drive southwest of Auckland, Nikau Cave is one of the most beautiful glowworm caves in New Zealand, with thousands of glowworms and amazing formations. Nikau Cave is the best place to see glowworms close to Auckland.

The one and a half hour tour through Nikau Cave is personal and unhurried. We provide you with a helmet and a flashlight, and you will need walking shoes with good grip that you do not mind getting dirty. We recommend you bring a full change of clothes. A good level of fitness is required and the cave tour includes a twelve-metre section which must be crawled through. The tour follows the stream which runs through the cave which means feet will get wet. The recommended age limit is 7 years old.

The beautiful café is the perfect place for a relaxing day trip from Auckland or refreshing getaway. The cafe is fully licensed, serves coffee roasted onsite and a range of food and drink options. We serve a seasonally inspired menu, sourcing local food where possible, including from our own large gardens. There is a range of indoor and outdoor seating.

You must book for caving and we recommend looking at our website for more information. We’re open Monday to Friday 9:30 am-4:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:30 am – 5 pm, all year. Closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (26 December) and Good Friday.
