We are a small 20 person backpackers with shared, single, twin and queen size rooms and comfortable made-up beds. Wi-fi is available at a small cost as well as free TV and DVD movies. We have a BBQ available along with bikes for use and safe bike storage. There is ample off-street parking and we are only 5 minutes walk from town. We are a wheelchair-friendly facility.
Rawhiti Backpackers is well-placed between Christchurch, Lake Tekapo and Queenstown with many attractions within a short distance. There are short walks in town along with the well-known Peel Forest Walks only 15 minutes away. We have become an important stopping off point on the Te Aroroa Trail ( a length of New Zealand walk). The town boasts a fine array of boutique shops and many excellent cafes. There is a very good bike track just out of town and plenty of good roads for cycling. The vintage car museum is well worth a look along with some lovely art galleries and an historic cinema.
Being only an hour away from a number of ski-fields makes Rawhiti a comfortable apres-ski destination with large kitchen and central heating in winter. We are also available as a small inclusive conference centre of up to 20 people.
There are two golf courses within easy reach and for the more adventurous there is white-water rafting in the Rangitata Gorge and horse trekking at Peel Forest.
