The Interislander Cook Strait Ferry connects New Zealand's two islands on a scenic journey that has been described as "one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world".
From Picton, the Interislander crossing begins with an hour long cruise through the Marlborough Sounds on a meandering journey amidst some of New Zealand's finest scenery. The ferry then crosses the rugged Cook Strait, where the wild hills of tectonic turbulence rise from the sea to create a scene of primordial wilderness. The last hour of the journey is spent rounding the Miramar Peninsula and navigating through Wellington's huge natural harbour into the heart of the city.
Interislander operates three ferries with up to twelve crossings per day, carrying foot passengers, bicycles, motorbikes, cars, caravans and campervans. Interislander has been operating since 1962 and is a genuinely iconic New Zealand experience.
