We want this town to thrive and everyone in it to thrive.

We have seen the talent this town has, growers market, great food and drinks, NZ beers and wines and fruit juices.

We saw a niche for a place that would appeal to people who aren’t interested the usual sort of clubs/pubs and music. Somewhere that transcends judgement/age/race/appearance and we have found that good vibes attract good people.

We want locals to have pride for the community of Whangarei. We give people a reason to come out by putting on a range of events. We have national and international touring gigs too!!

By providing good food and good service we are raising the bar for hospitality in this town. We wanted to provide coffee after 3pm that is not a petrol station.

As well as the on going and growing performance creativity happening here with the local artists & musicians, we also soon will be able to host visual art exhibitions of all the local talented art and national exhibitions too.

We built an outdoor stage to have shows and get local musicians exposure as well as big name bands from NZ and overseas to come to Whangarei! There’s no reason this town can’t be awesome and have quality international events.

Things we have here regularly: Original open mic nights, spoken word poetry, movie nights, drag shows, whanagGay (gay friendly mixer), burlesque, youth musicians, pecha kucha, community group functions, NZ comedians, local bands & DJs, dance parties, theme/dress-up nights,
We also host all manner of personal events - baby showers, hen/stag nights, engagement parties, anniversaries, birthdays, staff functions etc..

We provide excellent food, service and entertainment. We are lifting the bar!!! We are a destination for locals and tourists alike, a place and reason to stop on the way to the Bay of Islands.

We have become renowned for great food and coffee that is available all day, all night, all year round!

A local Whangarei girl with a passion for good food, great coffee and all the creative arts, who has worked hard in local hospitality to get herself to a position to buy her own establishment at the age of 28 years!

Jess loves food and coffee and with over a decade of experience in the industry (both front and back of house) and being able to provide that, receiving smiles, seeing staff thriving and the positive ripple effect on the whole community makes all the hard work worth it.

The Butter Factory is an amalgamation of all these things. "I had an amazing opportunity to take this established bar over in July 2013 and have been putting my heart and soul into the place. Everyone that comes here can feel that energy and love."

I am using this business to uplift people and help make our local community AWESOME!! It is a place that the larger community can be proud of. I am so so passionate about Whangarei! It is very different from anything else in Northland, New Zealand and the world!
