Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a stunning subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, a lake, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more... The Gardens were established in 1997 and are a work in progress that has been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups. Entry is by DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. We can also boast one of the BEST places to get coffee in Whangarei, here at Quail Cafe. It's the perfect place to take a break when heading North through to the Bay of Islands as we are just off State Highway 1. Come and enjoy a relaxing walk and decadent morning tea or lunch before heading out of town. We also have a golf cart available for tours.
