Melker Stiftskeller

In 1438 the Abbey of Melk bought a property, called Melker Hof, that today houses the Melker Stiftskeller. In the last six centuries a once sipmle house with garden became a larger complex with a chapell, a tower and a wine cellar. During the second Turkish Invasion in 1683, the building was damaged. After more renovations and extantions, the whole complex was demolished and rebuilt in 1769. An offical document from 1629 is proof that henceforth the abbey is allowed to store and sell their wines and goods at the Melker court.
Since the 20th century it is run as a restaurant offering traditional Austrian food and wines. The specialty of the house, a slow roasted pork knuckle, is still being served.
The old cellar vault ceiling and cozy atmosphere invites everybody to stay and enjoy the ambiance, good food and local beer and wine.
