Brasserie De Volksbond is a restaurant where beer and food live in harmony.
We offer a beer menu with more than 200 beers from more than 50 different breweries, mostly local and Belgian.
All trappist beers are available at our restaurant only the West-Vleteren isn't on it, because we respect the demand of the monks to don't resell their beers. Our restaurant is only a 20 minutes ride thru the abbey of West-Vleteren, where you can try the beers without any problem.
The beer menu offers also a lot of Old Geuzes, and some Fruit beers with spontaneous yeasting.
Next to this large choice in Beers are we specialized in serving classical Belgian no-nonsense food. On our food menu will you find some snacks as spaghetti, ham and cheese toasted sandwiches, farmbread,... Specialties of the chef are the Flemish beef stew, chicken stew, steaks, fish pies, spareribs, rib eyes. Every week do we come with a new suggestion dish, where you can choose a complimentary beer with. The restaurant is situated only 100 metres away from the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917. The restaurant has been built in 1923 and the elements of the interior are still almost the same as then. Saar and Simon are running De Volksbond with their team, Saar takes care of the customers and can help them with choosing a beer that they will like, just mention some known commercial beers who you like and she will surprise you with a local (mostly even better) beer from the same style. Simon is most of the time in the kitchen as he is the Chef. He is zythologist, a beer sommelier, so if you want more information about the beers he's your guide in Belgian beers and their history. When he's not cooking, you can find him in the restaurant as well where he will help you as well with the choice of one or more beers from their menu. Both of them will always try to find together with their customers a perfect fitting beer with their meal.

A reservation is mostly required.
Open from friday till tuesday from 12:00h till 20:30h (or longer depends how busy it is)
Kitchen is closed between 15:00h and 18:00h
