Located under Frederiksberg Hill in the heart of Søndermarken Park, The Cisterns is the only dripstone cave in Denmark, today acting as an underground venue for art exhibitions and events.
Once The Cisterns provided the city of Copenhagen with drinking water, but they were drained in 1981 and now function as an exhibition space. Every year, a new artist creates an exhibition with point of departure in the physical surroundings of The Cisterns in which the distinctive architecture and humid climate add a very tangible element to the way art is perceived and ensure the visitor a unique experience.
We offer guided tours for groups, but you can also explore the underground atmosphere on your own.
