The former main prison of the East German secret police – the Stasi – is today a memorial. The remains of this vast prison with its cells and interrogation rooms give a deep and authentic insight into German history. Today mainly former political inmates are offering guided tours through the location. Also available for free: the permanent exhibition „Imprisoned in Hohenschönhausen“.

Between 1945 and 1989 thousands of people had been imprisoned by the Stasi for political reasons, among them many who wanted to flee over the Berlin wall. The place was eventually closed in 1990.

We offer guided tours through the historical buildings daily in German and English. Groups have to book beforehand, individual visitors are free to come without reservation.
