The former central prison of the East German secret police – the Stasi – is today a memorial. The remains of this vast prison with its cells and interrogation rooms give a deep and authentic insight into German history. Between 1945 and 1989, more than 11.000 political inmates had been arrested for protesting against the communist regime or because they wanted to cross the Berlin wall. Eventually, they ended in Berlin-Hohenschönhausen.

Today, former inmates make tours through the historical buildings they had to experience before the fall of the wall. They tell stories about their arrest, imprisonment and how the Stasi broke them to get a confession.
