Nostos, from the Greek of Homer’s day, expresses a yearning to return, memories of cherished friends; love of homeland and of one’s roots…nostalgia. Our philosophy at the Manousakis Winery is simple; we carefully cultivate our vines to allow them to absorb the unique aromas and essence of the Cretan Terroir. Each grape cluster is filled with distinctive character, capturing and preserving the incredible Lefka Ori mountains in each bottle of our Nostos Wines. Letting nature speak. That’s what we’re all about.
We invite you to come visit us in Vatolakkos and taste our organic wines. Whether you want to pair our wines with delicious Cretan delicacies, or try them on their own, you will experience a side of Crete you never knew.

Our winery was founded in 1993 by Theodore Manousakis and has been producing organic, high end wines under the guidance of wine consultants including Laurence Feraud from Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bruce Zoecklein from the University of Virginia. Nostos Wines have been highly praised by wine gurus Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson as well as winning the Silver Medal in the international competition “Grenaches du Monde” in 2016; the first Greek wine ever to receive this prestigious award.

Please note that all tours and tastings are by appointment only which can be made online, via telephone or e-mail. Tours and tastings are available from May - October every Monday-Sunday 10:00-18:00 and from November to April Monday to Friday only upon request. Offices are open Monday-Friday 9:00-17:00.

Our new branding has been causing quite a stir! Our new Nostos labels depict the story of Ted Manousakis, the man with the vision. It starts with an image of Dimitris Manousakis, Ted's father who left Crete at a young age to go to America. After some years, Dimitris returned to Crete, married Eleni and had 4 children. Our Grenache shows Ted as a young boy in the village with a bike that he rented for 1 day. When Ted was 11, in 1955, he set off for the U.S. aboard the T.S.S. Olympia (Roussanne). Years later Ted had 3 daughters depicted by the 3 Manousakia or, narcissus flowers, on our Muscat of Spinas. He then planted his vineyards in Vatolakkos in 1993 and finally built his winery in 1997.
