Veresegyház is a developing small town which is located only 30 km from Budapest. The main turistical attraction of the town is the Bear Farm that is a unique place in Central-Europe provided especially for bears. The sanctuary was established in 1998 when the first bears were taken from a film production company from Gödöllő with the help of WSPA. Since that time the Bear Farm is maintained by the local government.
In the summer of 2000 the park was able to give place for 18 wolves and in 2010 coaties and raccoons moved in to their new home.
When the Bear Farm was established it was a very important issue to create an area which is in natural condition so the animals can feel safe and people can see them close without disturbing.
Within the area there are 12 caves where bears usually spend their winter hibernation. Two lakes provide fresh water for drinking, fishing and playing. A woody part with many trees is a perfect place to climb, hide and rest.
In 2015 we opened a petting zoo called BarátkoZOO for those who would like to get familiar with domestic animals (goats, sheep, pigs, bunnies, lamas, poultry) from a very close look! You can feed them, touch them because they are tame. In the playground and on the small football pitch children can have fun for hours!
