St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest is one of the most significant and most spectacular of religious and tourist attractions. The reasons behind it is the respect for its titular ordained king, the country’s state founder, and the artistic value of the building itself. The church is the third highest buildings in the country, and one of the two tallest in the city with its 96 meters. The construction of the church started in 1851, under the guidance of one of the greatest Hungarian architects, Miklós Ybl, and it was completed by József Klauser in 1905. In the next 50 years the cathedral suffered from wars, storms and earthquakes. The final reconstructions lasted from 1983 to 2003.
The concert is lead by the incredibly talented Milkós Teleki, who is regarded as one of the best organ artists in the country. The arias of the program are performed by Kolos Kováts, one of the most famous concert and oratorio singers in Hungary. He received the Kossuth Prize in 1992, which is the highest prize for any artist in the country. The flute artist is
Eleonóra Krusic, who is famous for her performances with different noted orchestras, from Barcelona to Zürich, Graz and Vienna.
