The shelter of the Royal family officially opened for the first time on march 2016. Abandoned, dilapidated, has been restored to its original beauty thanks to an agreement between Rome Municipality and Associazione Roma Sotterranea, a non profit organization.
The bunker was located in a rather unexpected place, 350 meters to the north of tthe Royal Villa, today known as Villa Ada Savoia, and was built into a small hill. The most unusual feature of this bunker, thanks to the way it was constructed, is that it could accommodate automobile
The whole structure is circular, with walls reinforced with arches, which means that it is very resistant to collapse. Made with a thick lining of bricks, it would have further protected the occupants in the event of attack.
Today some furniture and various objects will bring you back to the time when Rome was under the constant boming from the Allies forces, in order to get rid of the Nazi occupation.
