Just because Bratislava is one of the youngest European capitals doesn’t mean it lacks the historical chops of its neighbours. Despite its youthful designation, Bratislava has a long and inconsistent history, resulting in it being known as a city of contrasts. It’s the type of city where new era architecture sits alongside remnants of the Communist era, which sit alongside the Old Town’s even-more-historic buildings. Nestled at the foot of the Small Carpathian mountains, on the bank of the Danube River, and tucked neatly into the Vienna-Budapest-Prague travel triangle, Bratislava is a great, less-travelled city to incorporate into a visit to the region.
