An exciting journey through the past with more than 100 original, century-old buildings from all parts of Switzerland, 250 farmyard animals, original historic gardens and fields, demonstrations of local crafts and many special events.

Look over the shoulder of the blacksmith when he is working at the forge, learn how cheese is made or watch the baker when he is baking the tasty Ballenberg-bread in an old wood fired oven . Enjoy the cosy side of Ballenberg with a barbecue, relax in our flower and scented gardens or follow in historic footsteps during a carriage ride. Gourmets can visit the in-house “Chocolaterie du Ballenberg”, enjoy the food in our homely restaurants or take a home-made souvenir back home.

For visiting groups we have special guided tours which focus on particular themes according to interest. For example, there are thematic tours about life in the alpine pastures, or about naturopathy, or the ceremonies relating to marriage, birth and death.

The yearly events comprise besides others the Ballenberg trouser-hold wrestling, the medicinal herb days, the autumn market and the Ticino festival. A highlight of this year will be the horse festival "Saddle up!", which will take place on September 30st and October 1st 2017. Furthermore, there are diverse events featuring specific topics such as for example silk production, traditional costumes and dances, traditional handcraft, linen production, farmyard animals and many more.
