The Hunt collection is a nationally important holding of some 2,000 original works of art and antiquity. These have been generously donated by the Hunt family to the people of Ireland and are housed in Limerick’s 18th Century Custom House.
Objects from the Stone Age to the 20th Century are displayed. Among the important pieces are the personal seal of Charles I of England, the 9th Century Antrim Cross, the Mary Queen of Scots Cross and a coin revered since the Middle Ages as being one of ‘the thirty pieces of silver’.
Permanent displays include works by O’Conor, Leech, Orpen and Jack B. Yeats. Facilities include guided tours, museum gift shop and a café overlooking the River Shannon.
Families can enjoy treasure trails and colouring sheets. On-going education and outreach programmes with curriculum linked and informal
workshop opportunities for both primary and secondary schools are available. Regular family friendly events, activities and tours are also on offer.
Our resident Tour Guide can take you on various pre-booked walking tours around Limerick City including the Georgian Quarter and the Medieval Quarter which can either be started or ended at the Hunt Museum.
Visitors can also enjoy a bite to eat or drink before or after their visit in the Hunt Cafe which overlooks the garden and river Shannon. Or visit our gift shop for that special gift or souvenir to take home.
