"A Place where Aviation History Comes to Life". The Air Museum's collection is headquartered in Chino, CA with many outstanding aircraft also displayed at the Grand Canyon satellite location. The Air Museum has grown to over 140 aircraft in its collection and is considered one of the premier museums in the world. An effort is made to restore our aircraft to flying condition. The Museum's mission is to preserve our aviation heritage by collecting artifacts, memorabilia and aircraft to increase the general public's interest in the history and excitement of aviation.
The Grand Canyon location is housed next to the Grand Canyon-Valle airport at the intersection of AZ Highway 64 and Highway 180, 25 miles south of the Grand Canyon's South Entrance Gate. There are nearly three dozen warbirds, classic and experimental aircraft on display. The collection covers the spectrum of aviation history from WW1 through the supersonic jet age. Also on display are scale model aircraft, a Women in Aviation exhibit, a U.S. military patch collection and a wide variety of artifacts and memorabilia. Some of the aircraft on display include a German Messerschmitt 109G. A Grumman F3F fighter plane and an A-26 Twin Engine Light Bomber. The planes have been accumulated from different sources--some have been donated from the military and some from private owners.
The entrance and lobby of the museum house a large AZ Office of Tourism Visitor Center and a gift shop specializing in aviation-themed items, including a great selection of t-shirts. The visitor center features Arizona and Southwest information for motels, restaurants, attractions and points of interest.
Hours of operation are 9am-5pm daily. Admission is $6.95 for adults and $1.95 for children. Please contact us for more information at 928-635-1000 or www.planesoffame.org.
