Guided tours and self catered camping available on the ranch. We are located in the historic Bijou Basin about 70 miles southwest of Denver and 70 miles northeast of Colorado Springs. See our herd magnificent Texas Longhorn cattle that are raised on the ranch. Watch border collies work the cattle during feeding or roundups. You will have a good chance of see some of the abundant wildlife including mule deer, pronghorn antelope, eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and coyotes. And you'll have some chance to see the occasional elk or the elusive bobcats or mountain lions that are in the area. John C. Fremont and Kit Carson were on what is now the ranch in the 1840s. John C. Fremont and his party of 38 men camped here on the night of 10 July 1843. Almost certainly famous Cheyennes and Arapahoes were here such as Black Kettle, Roman Nose, George Bent, and others. The famous plainsman and cattleman, Charles Goodnight, delivered cattle from Texas to the Bijou Basin in the 1860s. We are on West Bijou Creek which was (and is) the most reliable stream on the prairie between Cherry Creek to the west, the Republican River to the east, the South Platte River to the north, and the Arkansas River to the south.
