Located on 235 acres along the banks of the Brandywine, Hagley is the site of the gunpowder works founded by E.I. du Pont in 1802. This example of early American industry features indoor and outdoor exhibitions, including restored mills, a workers community, and the ancestral home and garden of the du Pont family.
Join our guide for a tour of the Museum. In the Powder Yards, learn how water power was used to power the machinery. Visit the nineteenth-century Machine Shop and walk through dioramas showing the steps of the gunpowder making process.
The guided tour will take you to the du Pont family home and First Office of the DuPont Company overlooking the original mills.
The tour will finish on Workers' Hill where the guide will show you a Worker's Home and the Brandywine Manufacturers' Sunday School.
