Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the William Manatt House was built in the Italianate style in 1869 at a cost of $8,000. It was the home of early pioneer William Manatt, one of the county's wealthiest landowners, and overlooks the community's "Avenue of Flags" site. Nowadays it serves as a local history museum and home to the Brooklyn Historical Society. Displays include a roll top desk used by John Wayne's father, a pharmacist at a Brooklyn drug store; also recognition of WW II veteran Harold Keller, a hero at Iwa Jima; and an exhibit of vintage clothing used by early settlers. The museum is open Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
