Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Music Association and Iowa Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame - Keeping Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Alive
Iowa’s Musical History:
The rock ’n’ roll genre gained momentum in Iowa as teenagers began to listen to “their music” during the late 1950s and early ’60s. Progressive adults recognized the growing trend of rock ’n’ roll music, and worked to develop it and make it widely accessible throughout the state of Iowa. It was not long before radio station deejays were playing this new music over the airwaves, grand ballrooms and road houses around the state were hosting teen hops and nearly every town and city regardless of size had at least one hometown rock ’n’ roll band. With that, a new musical generation was born.
The Iowa Rock ’n’ Roll Music Association, a 501c3 Non-Profit organization, was formed in 1997 in order to retain and preserve the legacy of rock ‘n’ roll music in Iowa. The IRRMA provides music education programs statewide to schools, churches and youth groups. We also host, sponsor and promote various entertainment events and concerts throughout venues in Iowa. The IRRMA Hall of Fame also inducts bands, musicians and others that have contributed to rock ‘n’ roll music in Iowa every Labor Day Weekend.
The IRRMA’s Mission:
- The mission of the Iowa Rock ’n’ Roll Music Association is to retain and honor the legacy of rock ’n’ roll music and preserve the history of music in the state of Iowa.
