The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower sits on the corner of the historic downtown square in Jefferson, IA. The 168 ft. structure was a gift to the people of Jefferson and Greene County by Floyd & Dora Mahanay. The Tower was built in 1966 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016. An elevator takes visitors to the glass enclosed observation deck named for Paul Nally at 120 ft. to view the beautiful community and countryside. Tour guides share the story of the Mahanays and other unique attractions, eateries and shopping in Greene County. The Tower holds 47 bronze cast bells which play each quarter hour with live concerts daily. View the rooftop art that can only be seen from the top of the Tower. An "eye spy" is fun for kids to spot items from the deck. Souvenirs are available along with a penny souvenir machine with four choices - the Mahanay Tower, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln Highway and Abraham Lincoln.
The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower is open on weekends in May, September & October from 10 am - 4 pm. It is open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 10 am - 4 pm. Tours can be arranged by appointment by calling us. Admission is $3 for adults and free to youth 18 and under courtesy of Beta Tau Delta.
