Norman Borlaug Boyhood Farm & Birthplace

Tour the Boyhood Farm and Birthplace of Dr. Norman Borlaug and see why this gentle man is only one of seven people in the world to ever be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Congressional Gold Medal, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Dr. Borlaug is credited with saving millions of lives by developing a hybrid of wheat that could be grown in places that previously could not.

Attend "Inspire Day" at the Borlaug Boyhood Farm where schools around Iowa bring 5th graders to the farm to learn about this unique man and his contribution to the world. Dignitaries from Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa and Luther College are on hand throughout the day to educate and learn about Dr. Norman Borlaug and his contributions to the world!

On March 25, 2014, what would have been Norman's 100th Birthday, the State of Iowa replaced a statue in Statuary Hall in Washington DC with a statue of Norman Borlaug. Only the sixth time in U.S. history has a statue been replaced! Honoring Borlaug's legacy in feeding a billion people marks him as one of Iowa's and America's greatest heroes. Having his statue in our nation's capitol will ensure that his legacy endures.

Learn more about Dr. Norman Borlaug, his upbringing and his life work as you tour this rural farm in Iowa. Understand more about the World Food Prize, a companion piece to the Nobel Peace Prize, and the efforts around the world to feed our people. This is a must-see on your visit to Cresco and Northeast Iowa!
