All visitors are encouraged to stop at the Van Buren County Welcome Center upon arriving in the Villages of Van Buren in scenic Southeast Iowa. You will find helpful information about your visit to the Villages and our friendly staff will answer any questions you have about your stay. While there, be sure to see the amazing displays of memorabilia collected from throughout Van Buren County. This is also your Villages of Van Buren souvenir headquarters!
The Welcome Center houses the offices for the Villages of Van Buren and the Villages Folk School.
The History of the Building
The building was originally built as a home (c. 1870) as a one story house constructed of local fired brick in a traditional architecture type along the Des Moines River. After 1947 it was converted to a commercial property. In succession it was a telephone company, medical office for Doctors Worrell and Furomoto, and an insurance office. McCoy Insurance Service is responsible for the extensive restoration the building underwent in the 1990's and the addition of the picket fence and landscaping.
