Like Judith Sargent Murray, the Sargent House Museum continues to empower women and men, young and old, to value women’s equality, education, and role in the community for the benefit of the common good. With the support from local institutions and organizations, as well as generous members and donors, the Sargent House Museum continues to educate and inspire visitors in the life, times, writings, and home of Judith Sargent Murray, a pioneering advocate of women’s education and equality.
Moreover, the Sargent House Museum houses an exquisite collection of American decorative arts and furniture from major American furniture centers from Boston and Salem, Massachusetts to New Orleans, Louisiana. More specifically, the collection consists of several pristine examples of Sheraton furniture. Moreover the museum displays one of the finest collections of family portraits in the United States by major American artists, including: John Singer Sargent, Thomas Sully and James Frothingham.
