The Library Mary Baker Library has complimentary exhibit, “The Mapparium: An Inside View,” featuring never before made public letters, documents, and artifacts showcasing the construction, history, and significance of this magnificent architectural and artistic achievement.

Learn more about the history of the Mapparium and its architect, Chester Lindsay Churchill. Explore how the 1935 world map inside the Mapparium, which has never been updated, serves as a remarkable snapshot of both geographic and global history.

In 1935 the immaculate 30 foot stained globe, know as the Mapparium, was manifested as an emblem for the Christian Science Monitor for their global impact through their well know international newspaper. Architect, Chester Lindsey Churchill designer of the Mapparium and the neoclassical Christian Science Publishing Hall, also built in 1935. When the Christian Science Publishing Society constructed a new headquarters at the height of the Great Depression, this building housed massive print and bindery equipment. Today this unique and beautiful space celebrates our common heritage, with historic architecture and materials internationally sourced from Portugal, France, Belgium, England, Germany, Italy, Czechoslovakia, and Australia. The Mapparium is constructed of 608 stain glass panels made in England by the Hope Glass Company. Then the Rambush Glass Company did all the designing and tempering of all the panels.

The Publishing House Lobby a neoclassical hall built in 1935. When the Christian Science Publishing Society constructed a new headquarters at the height of the Great Depression, this building housed massive print and bindery equipment. The Gallery a place to learn more about the Mary Baker Eddy and The Mary Baker Eddy Library Collections. It provides a location for temporary annual exhibits that explore topics related to her life, ideas, accomplishments, and legacy.

Research & Reference Services provides access to original materials that document the life and legacy of Mary Baker Eddy. The Library’s collections are central to its mission and include letters, manuscripts, organizational records, photographs, artifacts, books, periodicals, audiovisuals, and other materials available for in-depth research.

Library exhibits hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Research & Reference Services hours: Tuesday through Friday, and the First Saturday of February, May, August, and November, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Admission: $6 (General); $4 (youth 6-17,college students with valid ID, seniors,U.S. Military); Free for children 5 and under.
