The Hackley Public Library is dedicated to 1) promoting knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, 2) combating ignorance, intolerance, and indifference, 3) promoting the free exchange of ideas, and 4) conserving our national and local cultural heritage.
The mission of the Hackley Public Library is to inform, inspire, and delight our diverse community by providing information, knowledge, literature, new technologies, and traditional and innovative programs.
In addition to our physical collection, we also provide public access computers, free wi-fi, and eBooks and eAudiobooks. We have a large local history and genealogy collection. We also have a copy of the Book of Kells on display.
Our building was built in 1889 and dedicated in 1890. We have 7 fireplaces and a number of stained glass windows. We also have one of the few publicly accessible glass floors in the State of Michigan. Our Youth Services Department is decorated with murals designed in the 1930's.
