The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum is FREE and open to the public Monday - Friday 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed national and university holidays) The Museum features a unique collection of more than two thousand works that span the 70-year career of Detroit-based public sculptor Marshall M. Fredericks (1908-1998). He is known nationally and internationally for his impressive monumental figurative sculpture, public memorials, fountains, portraits, and medals. His sculptures can be found in more than 150 public and corporate locations in California, Florida, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, DC, Wisconsin, Denmark, England, Freeport Grand Bahama Island, Finland, Japan, Norway and Sweden. Fredericks’s works are located in parks and gardens, government embassies and royal palaces, museums and zoos, universities, hospitals, and libraries.

The Main Exhibit Gallery displays an extraordinary collection of more than 200 works that span Fredericks’s career. Plaster molds used to cast the sculptor’s work in bronze constitute the bulk of the collection, which Fredericks gave to the Museum and helped install in the permanent exhibit.

When Marshall Fredericks died in 1998, clay models, armatures, molds, sculptures, machinery, tools, equipment, and personal and professional files from his home and studio were donated to Saginaw Valley State University. This gift created the impetus to expand the Museum to include galleries for temporary exhibitions and a permanent installation of many of the objects from the artist’s studio. This gallery is known as the “Sculptor’s Studio,” a representation of Fredericks’s studio in Royal Oak, MI. The Temporary Exhibition Galleries make possible the display and interpretation of the work of artists from around the world, a significant resource for the University and Great Lakes Bay Region. The current exhibition is Mingled Visions: Images from The North American Indian Collection by Edward S. Curtis, Feb. 3 - May 20, 2017.

The Jo Anne & Donald Petersen Sculpture Garden is a destination for residents as well as visitors and tourists to the Great Lakes Bay Region. It is a place where people come to reflect, relax, socialize, have lunch, and enjoy the sites of beautiful bronze sculptures and botanical beds, and the sounds of water created by the Day and Night Fountain and the Otter Pool.
