Right Brain Brewery is nestled in the SoFo District of downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Our focus is on creating artisanally made, one-of-a-kind culinary inspired brews. If you taste something in our beers, like Asparagus, Cherry Pies, or Real Pig, it's because we put it there using only whole natural ingredients; after all... extracts are for sissies. Visitors to Right Brain's tap room in Traverse City can expect a wide range of brews ranging from ones brewed with exotic ingredients, to beers perfectly brewed to style. Wine, cider and mead are also served in addition to a full food menu!

Right Brain brews can be found throughout the state of Michigan in cans, bottles, kegs, and on draft, however we're not just beer lovers, we're art lovers too. We're advocates for anything creative, innovative, or odd so get outside of the box and Keep Beer Curious.

History of Right Brain:
Right Brain Brewery opened in December 2007 in Traverse City, Michigan with the mission of “brewing what we want, when we want, because we can.” Starting on a 7 barrel brew system, Right Brain Brewery soon became a Traverse City favorite known for brewing big IPA’s and culinary-inspired ales using beets, honey, cucumbers, basil, or anything else the brewers wanted to use.

Inspiration for Right Brain brews often derives from the power of conversation. Founder Russell Springsteen once had dinner with a Mangalitsa pig butcher. At the end of dinner, it was agreed that Right Brain could use the left over smoked pig heads and bones to brew a Mangalitsa pig porter, which won a gold medal at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival in the experimental category. A discussion with a local pie company turned into the Pie Whole Series, where Right Brain throws whole baked pies (crust and all) into the fermenter. Calculated, culinary-inspired risks like these have turned out to be some of Right Brain’s most sought after beers, and even turned into symbiotic relationships where companies are using Right Brain beer to make their own products.

As distribution demand grew, the need arose for Right Brain to grow as well, and in 2012, they moved into a new 10,000 square foot production facility and added a 15 barrel brewing system. The increased space for brewing production allowed Right Brain to keep up with distribution, while still allowing brewers to make small batches with asparagus, spicy peanut butter, mint, lavender, chipotle peppers, and vanilla, among other ingredients.

Today, everything Right Brain does is guided by the tagline “Keep Beer Curious.” Right Brain is never fully satisfied with what beer is, but instead curious about what it can become with a little creativity and passion. This tagline is not only a guiding light for brewery employees, but it is also a challenge to other breweries to keep pushing the boundaries of what beer can be. It’s a celebration that Right Brain is lucky enough, after almost 10 years, to still be brewing “what we want, when we want, because we can.”
