miSci (museum of innovation and science)

Founded in 1934, miSci is the only science center in Tech Valley offering an interactive, multimedia experience for visitors of all ages, as well as programming for school children throughout northeastern New York, western Massachusetts, and southern Vermont. Mission-driven to “inspire people to celebrate and explore science and technology, past, present and future,” miSci is home to an extensive Archival Collection, a Challenger Learning Center, the Suits-Bueche Planetarium, the Dudley Observatory, and various special exhibits and programs each year.

miSci features regularly changing exhibits on topics in STEM, including annual exhibits featuring live butterflies and model trains. miSci offers special programs for all ages, including Senior Science Day (presented by the Dudley Observatory), Little Wonders of Science for preschoolers, Teen Science Café, and STEM classes during school break weeks and summer vacation.

miSci’s vast Archives house more than 1.6 million prints and negatives from the GE Photograph collection; an archival collection with more than 3,500 cubic feet of historic materials; and more than 15,000 objects relating to the history of science and technology.

The Challenger Learning Center at miSci provides an interactive, simulated mission to space for visitors. Participants become part of a crew of engineers and scientists onboard the spacecraft. Like NASA astronauts, scientists, and engineers, visitors are assigned essential tasks and conduct critical experiments that they must execute for mission success.

The Suits-Bueche Planetarium is an official NASA Space Place with digital shows and live sky tours. Using its 30-foot dome screen and GOTO Star machine - capable of projecting 8,500 stars, 26 deep-sky objects, and 24 constellations - visitors are immersed in topics in astronomy, explorations of the current night sky, and stories of the visible constellations.

The Dudley Observatory is now located at miSci. The Dudley Observatory is the nation’s oldest non-academic intuition of astronomical research. Through its partnership with miSci, the Dudley Observatory educational programs in astronomy at the museum and as outreach programs.
