Set in an apple orchard in the foothills of the Berkshires, PS21 Chatham presents the annual Chatham Dance Festival every August and a Performing Arts Festival of music and theater in July. PS21 Chatham programming also includes free performances for kids, dance and theater workshops, community sings, and free movie screenings. Performances are presented from late-June through Labor Day.
The Dance Festival includes dance performances from leading contemporary dance companies. Dance companies which have performed at PS21 include Parsons Dance, Keigwin & Company, Dance Heginbotham, Gallim Dance, Monica Bill Barnes & Company, Jamal Jackson Dance Company, TAKE Dance, RubberbanDance, RIOULT Dance NY, Vanaver Caravan, PearsonWidrig DanceTheater, and more.
Music performances include an annual Bach concert and concerts from a variety of music traditions from around the world. Performers have included Simon Shaheen (Middle Eastern oud), Dom Flemons (African-American roots), Tony Trischka & Darol Anger (Bluegrass banjo & fiddle), Alicia Svigals (Klezmer fiddle), Dafnis Prieto Quartet (Cuban jazz), Villalobos Brothers (VeraCruzian quintet), So Percussion (modern percussion ensemble), Howard Fishman Biting Fish Brass Band (New Orleans jazz), Eugene Drucker (classical violin), and many more!
For five Fridays every the summer, PS21 presents free performances for kids and families. The programs, which are open to the public, begin at 1pm and include performances by dance companies, musicians, storytellers, mimes, and more.
