Southold Historical Society

The Southold Historical Society is one of the leading cultural institutions located on the North Fork of Long Island. Founded in 1960, the Society is dedicated to preserving and presenting the rich history of our region. The Society owns and maintains over a dozen buildings in Southold, which are brought to life with period décor and displays. The buildings range in date from 1750 to 1900 and include several houses, barns, outbuildings, and commercial structures.

Visit the charming Victorian style home of Joseph N. Hallock, and the pre-industrial Thomas Moore House. Tour the grounds outfitted with farm equipment sheds, housing countless pieces of agricultural machinery. Step inside a one-roomed schoolhouse and explore the grounds and buildings to discover more!

Be sure to visit our Treasure Exchange which is filled with antiques and our Gift Shop which has numerous historic novels and locally made goods. Both shops are located in the H.W. Prince Building, just steps away from the museum complex in the quaint town of Southold.
