Spring Street Natural

Spring Street Natural was founded in 1973 when terms such as “farm to table”, “locavore,” “organic” and “Paleo” were virtually unheard of in relation to food and dining. While these eating philosophies were not the widespread movements they’ve become today, they have been our inspiration for more than 42 years.

In 1973, SoHo’s fascination was that it was a mostly deserted and slightly menacing neighborhood of cast iron industrial buildings when we opened our doors on Spring Street between West Broadway and Wooster Streets. Spring Street Natural started out serving an entirely macrobiotic menu which quickly caught on with a SoHo in transition. Early customers included artist local residents and weekend gallery goers.

Simply named “Spring Street” for where we were located and “Natural” for our philosophy which from the beginning has been to serve whole natural foods that are minimally processed. Wherever possible we produce our items in house from fresh natural ingredients and employ traditional preparation methods to enhance the healthful quality and natural flavor of our food. We have evolved our cuisine over the years to include high quality proteins such as fresh fish, free roaming poultry and select organic meats to go along with the best quality grains, beans and produce. All our preparations are bound by one unyielding mission - to serve healthy, carefully sourced and delicious food.

Spring Street Natural is unique in that it is a place where vegetarians, vegans and carnivores can all break bread together - happily and in comfort. We are not dogmatic and believe all of earths’ bounty can be served healthfully and deliciously.

Having moved in 1985 to the corner of Spring and Lafayette Streets, we are, after 30 years, on the move again. Being the latest victims of unsustainable rent increases; it is with a heavy heart we announce our closing at years' end. However, we are very excited to have found a new home 2 blocks away at 98 Kenmare Street (between Cleveland Place and Mulberry Streets).

Our new space, designed by Kananshree Interiors, features two levels, each with a full bar. The lower level will be available for private events, and features exposed brick walls, colossal steel beams and custom built banquettes. The main dining space is an airy room with a tower grid of plants and comfortable, spacious seating. The light filled space is reflective of the former restaurant by keeping some of its laid back charm yet more refined and curated. A Neutral palate of wood, tiles and metal is used throughout. Copper lighting accents add glowing warmth to the space. Capacity on the lower level will be 85 with another 65 on the main level. Sidewalk seating will be available in the warmer months.

Now in our fourth decade of serving healthy, tasty and natural cuisine, Spring Natural has always been and will continue to be family owned and operated.

Join us for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Weekend Brunch, 7 days a week.
