The Pember Library and Museum of Natural History is a 2 Story granite and marble stone building. The building was specifically made to be used as a library and a natural history museum. The library occupies the first floor and the museum the second floor.
The Natural History Museum houses over 10,000 specimens of birds, mammals, eggs, rocks, reptiles, insects, sea creatures, historic artifacts, photographs and art collections, the Pember Museum provides residents and visitors with a rich tapestry of the natural world and its cultural heritage. Our collections are showcased in their original cherry archival display cases, with much standing as they were put on display in 1909.
The Pember is free of charge and provides educational programs, off site presentations at schools, loan kits of natural history specimens, as well as a summer day camp at its nature preserve.
