Marc and Gretchen Garofoli, spent years researching southern cuisine perfecting what has come to be Oak and Embers Tavern. Their many trips to the Carolinas, Georgia and Kentucky have brought to life an idea born from their love for great barbeque. Even their wedding on Hilton Head Island featured fabulous Southern Barbecue.
Marc and Gretchen have nearly 50 years combined in the restaurant business. Starting as dishwashers in their teens to servers in their twenties, working their way through cooking and bartending all the way to owning several prior restaurants, Marc and Gretchen are restaurateurs in their hearts.
Together, Marc and Gretchen developed the Oak and Embers menu to offer homemade selections prepared from scratch. Great care goes into the preparation of each entrée. Brisket, pork, ribs and chicken are wood-smoked for hours to heighten flavor and texture - pink, tender meat is proof of this process. Lighter fare options include salads and flatbreads prepared with unique taste combinations to offer an escape from the mundane. Each entree and side dish is cooked to order from recipes created from years of tasty research. The unique sauces, rubs and dressings are original and thoughtfully combined to complement each featured entrée.
Marc and Gretchen have also developed a taste and eye for fabulous spirits with a particular affection for bourbon and beer which they personally select for the full-service bar at each Oak and Embers location. They have also personally developed and perfected the unique specialty drinks offered at Oak and Embers that are nothing less than exceptional.
