Welcome to the National Iron & Steel Heritage Museum!
At NISHM our mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit,
interpret, and educate the public on our nation’s
iron and steel heritage. We do this by sharing the story
of Coatesville steelmaking, and connecting that story to
American history, heritage, and industrial progress.
Your tour today will provide insight into the people,
process, and product of the Coatesville steel plant. The
tour is chronological, from the plant’s beginnings in
1810 to the present day, and will provide connections
to the national steel industry. Your guide will provide information and photographs of
buildings and objects located throughout the grounds
of the Lukens National Historic District. By the end of
this tour, we hope you will have an understanding of
the history of Coatesville steelmaking and it’s importance
to our nation!
