The Ethan Allen Homestead Museum is dedicated to preserving the story of Ethan Allen, as well as his impact on the founding of Vermont and the creation of the United States. At his historic homestead in Burlington, docents take guests through the Allen house and use the artifacts to tell the story of life on the Vermont frontier in the 1780s.
In 2016, Governor Peter Shumlin, in accordance with the Board of Directors, proclaimed June 23 to be the first annual Ethan Allen Day in Vermont. On that date in 1775, the Continental Congress honored Ethan Allen for his courageous actions at Fort Ticonderoga, where he and the Green Mountain Boys carried out a bloodless attack to provide General George Washington with the cannon he needed to drive the British out of Boston. Allen was commissioned a Lieutenant Colonel of the Continental Army, and the Green Mountain Boys were accepted as the Green Mountain Regiment, one of the first regiments of the Continental Army of the United States.
The Ethan Allen Homestead is open daily from 10am-4pm, May 1st through October 31st. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for children aged 4-12. Seniors, Students, and VT Residents pay $7.
