Welcome to Green Mountain Spinnery Natural Fiber Yarn – A Worker-Owned Cooperative in Putney, Vermont. Since our founding more than thirty years ago we have been designing and producing richly colored, must-touch classic and contemporary yarns. To this day, our goals remain unchanged: to create yarns of the highest quality, to help sustain regional sheep farming, and to develop environmentally sound ways to process natural fibers.
All the fibers we use — alpaca, mohair, wool, and organic cotton — are grown in the United States. We make every effort to purchase directly from individual growers. Our 100% wool yarns are spun entirely from New England fleece. Unlike most commercial mills, The Green Mountain Spinnery uses no chemicals to bleach, moth-proof or shrink-proof yarns.
The Spinnery’s small shop offers all our yarns and knitting patterns as well as limited edition yarns and mill ends at reduced prices. The shop also carries needles, knitting books and magazines and buttons. You’ll be able to see display models of Vermont Designer Patterns knit in Green Mountain Spinnery yarns.
We are located at Exit 4 off I-91 across from the Putney Inn.

Monday thru Friday: 9:00-5:30
Saturday: 10:00-5:30
Sundays: 12:00-4:00
Our shop is open 7 days a week.
We process over 250 lbs. of US grown fibers into yarn every week.
Our antique machinery is worth a visit.
We can offer tours to groups fewer than 8 between 9am and 2pm Monday - Friday.
