Heston Farm will continue to host weddings and other private events, both at its Riverside Pavilions and Main Farm House (where the Restaurant and Tasting Room are), with Tommy and Tasia Thompson providing the same high-quality catering they have always prepared. Special events will continue, including Murder Mysteries, Valentine’s by Request, and so on. Our Tasting Room and Gift Shoppe also will remain open during this time period.

However, Foxfire Restaurant will be closed temporarily until May 1, 2017 to restructure. Over the next several months Mickey will be focused on putting in place a new ownership structure so the Restaurant can offer a full service bar, featuring Pinchgut Hollow craft spirits as well as other brands.

This decision is due to current legislative alcohol restrictions specific to distillers. Owner, Mickey Heston, said that he and other distillers have been lobbying for years for legislative changes so they can sell cocktails, but their specific issue had gotten mixed up with the Brunch Bill, which deals with a completely different issue.

While Foxfire Restaurant is able to sell the wines and beers produced at the Farm, by law in West Virginia, Foxfire Restaurant is not allowed to sell the Farm’s whiskeys or any other liquor by the glass. Consider the impact of that law. Pinchgut Hollow Distillery has award winning products but can’t sell them in Foxfire Restaurant simply because Mickey owns both businesses. This archaic law, leftover from the days of prohibition, dramatically effects sales. National customers are disappointed to learn they can’t enjoy a cocktail concocted with the Farm’s handcrafted whiskeys. Locally, the law makes it hard for Foxfire to compete with other restaurants in North Central West Virginia that can serve wine, beer, and spirits.
