Fishing Trips.
Penzance is a fantastic port for fishing trips, with its venerable maritime history and proximity to Britain’s best fishing waters. Taking in the breathtaking Cornish coastline, Mermaid II can take you to good fishing grounds quickly. Our boat trips are relaxing, enjoyable and entertaining. For those new to fishing Skipper Adrian Thomas and his crew will guide you through your first steps, so that soon enough you’re experiencing the thrill of sea fishing. And for those keen fishermen – well, you can just get on with it! Our fishing trips make a fun and unusual alternative for Cornish holiday entertainment, birthday parties, stag/hen parties, family reunions, anniversaries, and any other excuse for a good time at sea.

Wildlife Cruises
If you are visiting West Cornwall our Coast Cruises are not to be missed! We leave Penzance and cruise easterly along the striking Cornish coastline to the historic and breathtaking St Michael’s Mount. This fairytale castle is connected to the mainland by a causeway which is covered at high tide. Hear about the history and legends of the Mount and learn some unusual and interesting Cornish tales.We will take you down the coastline to Cudden Point where the common grey seal is often seen. En route experience the unseen beauty of the Mount from the seaward side, while you keep an eye out for the dolphins and porpoises very often seen in this location. Adrian is in radio contact with other boats at sea, and will be informed of any pods of dolphins and other notable wildlife in the area – so you won‘t miss them! Spot the Cormorants, Gannets and the Great Black Backed Gulls. Basking sharks are also found here during the warmer months.
Travelling past Newlyn our famous fishing port, Mousehole rich in folklore, Lamorna Cove famous for its diving to your destination, the Minack Theatre. The Minack Theatre is an open-air theatre, constructed above a gully with a rocky granite outcrop jutting into the sea. Minack is from the Cornish meynek meaning “a stony or rocky place”. The seas are usually very clear here and it is an extremely popular place for the Basking sharks to visit. Adrian is in touch with other boats so as not to miss any marine life sightings!

Pelagic Trips
Through the summer we run regular 4hr birdwatching and wildlife trips on board Mermaid II.
We head offshore in search of Wilson’s Petrel, Great and Pomarine Skuas, Sooty and Balearic Shearwaters, Storm Petrels, Puffins, Manx Shearwaters and Gannets. Plus a good variety of marine mega-fauna such as Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, Bowhead whale (seen 15/5/16), Pilot Whales (seen 2015), Bottlenose Dolphins, Harbour Porpoises, Common Dolphins, Basking Sharks and Ocean Sunfish, plus anything else that may pop up!

Educational Services / Schools
Mermaid Pleasure Trips know how important it is to educate children in marine environment, local industry and heritage and water safety. Aboard the Mermaid II, we take school parties out to sea for fishing trips and wildlife coastal cruises. These are part of activity days, team building skills and special award days where local pupils can hopefully see seals, dolphins, basking sharks, sunfish and bird life. They can also try fishing for mackerel or pollock and learn about their local industry – the Cornish fishing trade. Please contact us to discuss your individual requirements.
