“A place we’d all like to have nearby to enjoy amazing food and a relaxing atmosphere”. This was the straightforward concept behind the reinvention of the Flitch of Bacon as a restaurant by Daniel Clifford. Daniel, a local resident and known more widely for his 2 Michelin starred restaurant, Midsummer House, wanted a place that was special, but not just for special occasions, to bring his own family and share with Little Dunmow.
A strong sense of the importance such a historic place has in the fabric of the area has ensured the Flitch has seen a sympathetic restoration. Daniel saw the Flitch of Bacon as an opportunity to create something exceptional for the locality.
Each room is distinctive in its style, not least in the choice of the name of a rare pig breed to identify itself to guests. Luxury is not a rarity in your chosen room; big fluffy towels, rich décor, sumptuous textiles and sleep inducing beds await your stay at the Flitch of Bacon.
- Monday to Thursday, £120, Bed and Breakfast (single occupancy)
- Monday to Thursday, £135, Bed and Breakfast (double occupancy)
- Friday, Saturday and special events (E.g. Guest Chef Nights, Christmas and New Year, £150, Bed and Breakfast)
Our food is a great expression of the seasons. The riches to be found within the local area provide ingredients of such quality that every day brings excitement to the kitchen door. The menus are a delight for anyone that enjoys classic elements elevated to a memorable level by a chef with an empathy for the elegance of simplicity. Putting pure pleasure on a plate is the ambition for diners at the Flitch.
We offer the following menus:
Set lunch menu which is priced at £20 for 2 courses per person, and £25 for 3 courses per person. The set lunch menu is available Thursday and Friday lunchtimes only.
3 course a la carte menu is priced at £55 per person, and is available every lunch and dinner, apart from Sundays.
6 course tasting menu is priced at £70 per person, and is available every lunch and dinner including Sundays.
3 course Sunday a la carte menu is priced at £45 per person.
