Canterbury Cottages

Set in a pretty courtyard, these two cottages are designed for a relaxing, rejuvenating getaway.

The Stables and The Gardener's Cottage are converted from existing old buildings, providing a period setting with 21st century amenities. The interiors have been thoughtfully decorated and furnished with style and comfort in mind; using beautiful English Oak, Heritage and eco products to attain an understated elegance. Comfort and Quality has been the main criteria. Designed for two, they offer the ultimate self-catering experience; an oasis of calm from which to discover this area's rich heritage. Great emphasis has been put into providing everything needed to make your stay unforgettable.

Situated between Sandwich and Canterbury, we are ideally placed for visiting this outstanding area of England; along with easy access to ports for trips to France and beyond. Dover Docks are 25 minutes away , with Eurotunnel about 40 minutes, and Ashford International Station for Eurostar is around 45 minutes drive. We have private parking, and a bus stop nearby.

These two charming cottages nestle in the hamlet of Shatterling, a beautiful part of the county of Kent, within easy reach of Canterbury, (a UNESCO site). Sandwich, described as one of the most complete medieval towns in England is 5 minutes by car, or head out into the beautiful countryside for days spent walking or birdwatching. If history is your thing, the ancient castles of Deal, Walmer, Richborough and Dover are all within easy reach. Other ideas may include a day trip to Paris via Eurostar or ferry to Boulogne and Calais; or stay with these shores and enjoy a day fishing, golfing or a refreshing coastal walk. This is the perfect location for exploring the best that Kent has to offer.

The Stables

Restored and rebuilt from the original building of 1703, using eco-friendly materials, this stunning cottage is a delight!

A bespoke Oak Front Door leads into the Sitting Room. Opened up to the ceiling, the massive English Oak beams provide the framework for a glorious space. Dual aspect, the French Doors lead onto your private patio at the rear, with views over the gardens beyond.

The terracotta floor provides a warm base to the ambiance of the room. The furniture is an eclectic mix of new (comfortable sofa and cushions) and antique golden oak furniture. A large digital television with Freeview, radio with i pod dock are supplied, along with a selection of films and music to entertain you. Uncluttered comfort has been the aim.

The bedroom area has a beautiful English hand-crafted white wrought iron bed , with side tables to match. Pure wool rugs to warm your feet and luxurious bed linen, along with silk cushions and throws complement the antique wardrobe and dressing table. The overall effect is calm, tranquil and so relaxing.

Step into the bathroom and you step into the 21st Century. Dominated by a huge walk-in shower, the bathroom is stylish and modern, highlighted by the vivid splash made by the soft, thick towels. A lit mirror for the ladies and an eco-friendly hairdryer is incorporated along with stylish accessories to complete the effect.

The solid oak kitchen is fitted with a washing machine, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, microwave, and oven with ceramic touch-control hob and extractor. A larger freezer, ironing board and iron, tumble dryer and space for suitcases is provided in The Old Bakehouse opposite the cottage, along with the recycling boxes. You even have a water filter jug!

An apron to protect your clothes, blender, hand-mixer, coffee machine, there are so many thoughtful items in the kitchen to help make your break easy. Wedgewood china, delicate glassware – home from home! A delightful room in which to cook and enjoy conversation over a glass of wine- if you don't fancy cooking, we have a range of pre-prepared meals, perfect after a day out.

The Gardener's Cottage
