The museum is situated in an old industrial building off the high street and is packed to the rafters with exhibits and displays about Deal's maritime past. The last Deal galley, used for smuggling, is here as is Tender Too, one of the "Little Ships," involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk. There are a number of model boats and a display about the lifeboat stations and life boat men who risked their lives to save the crews of ships which ran aground on the Goodwin Sands.

Find out about the Royal Marines (and Wrens) who had an association with the town for over two hundred years. Also featured is a small exhibition about the local coalfields and the miners who came from NE England and Wales to work here in the 20th Century.

Upstairs in our upper gallery, we have displays about our trade and domestic history. There are signs from local shops, pie dishes from local bakers, a giant shoe used for advertising by a local shoe shop. Also on view is a selection of drawings, including those by Henry Moses and sketches by J R Roget. A Hooden Horse is here too, no longer roaming the town at Christmas.

In the boatyard, are relics from the sea, more boats, including Eleanor, a sprat boat built in 1892. and gravestones, including that of John Elbeck who was killed by smugglers in 1794. In fine weather, there is an opportunity to enjoy light refreshments here.
