The House of Agnes is not an ordinary Bed and Breakfast. It is a beautiful seventeen-bedroom historic property dating back to the 15th Century. It was referred to by name in Charles Dickens’ novel ‘David Copperfield’ as the House of Agnes Whitfield.
Centrally located, it has award-winning restaurants on the doorstep and is a short walk from the famous Cathedral, the Marlowe Theatre, shops and historical attractions.
Canterbury West railway station is a few minutes walk and is conveniently served by the High Speed train from London St Pancras International.
The main-house has nine boutique-style ensuite rooms with flat-screen TV, DVD player, free Wi-Fi, hairdryer and beverage tray. All rooms have air-conditioning or fans; some have baths as well as showers. The modern 'Stable Mews' have a further eight en-suite bedrooms overlooking the garden, all with the similar amenities as in the main house and with the stylish quality one expects at the House of Agnes.
There is a unique ‘honesty bar’ where guests can serve themselves at any time, a cosy library and a comfy lounge with eclectic decor and quirky furnishings. Enjoy a glass of local Kentish beer and a game of chess or amuse yourself with one of the other board games readily available.
Breakfast in the wood-panelled Quadrant room is a highlight; a cold buffet greets all guests with a selection of fresh fruit, juices, cereals, pastries, yoghurts and preserves. This is followed by a freshly cooked Kentish breakfast or our 'Special of the Day' using local produce such as homemade sausages and free-range farm eggs. Vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements are also well catered for.
The large walled garden is an oasis of calm; filled with flowers from spring until autumn. Deck chairs and garden furniture allow guests to relax and enjoy a quiet read or a glass of chilled wine uninterrupted by the bustle of the city.
Secure parking is available to the rear of the building and gates are locked at night for additional security. If you wish to book please contact us directly by phone, email or by going onto our own booking site.
