Helmsley Walled Garden is five tranquil acres, stunningly located at the foot of the North York Moors and in the shadow of the historic Helmsley Castle. This 250 year old walled garden, lovingly brought back to life from dereliction has been a visitor attraction for over twenty years. We are open everyday from 1st April until 31st October from 10am till 5pm. The garden is wheelchair accessible and there are plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the different views of the garden.

Enjoy a walk through restored glasshouses full of colour, a double herbaceous Hot Border running the length of the Garden or sit and enjoy the tranquillity of the Garden of Contemplation. The Clematis Garden gives a chance t see many different types and varieties of this beautiful flower and there are nearly one hundred varieties of apple in the orchard and around the walls. In the Kitchen Garden, vegetables and fruit from the Garden go into the delicious dishes prepared in the Vine House Café. Visitors sit beneath Victorian vine cultivars to enjoy soups, salads and open sandwiches as well as delicious cakes and desserts.

The Plant Centre is packed with herbaceous perennials, some of which visitors will find on display in the Garden. Staff help visitors with any questions about what might go well in their gardens. The Garden shop also sells a range of garden sundries such as gloves, string and seeds as well as gifts such as jams, chutneys and biscuits.

Helmsley Walled Garden is a charity providing horticultural therapy to vulnerable adults. At the garden we work with people with disabilities as well as those who are coping with the effects of depression, social isolation and long-term unemployment. This work is funded by visitor admissions, so when you are visiting the garden, buying a plant or a cup of coffee you are helping to support us in the work we do.
